Painting is the itch I can’t scratch. It’s the first and only
endeavor that I’ve come across in my lifetime that
continues to excite and challenge me, and to push me
deeper into study and experimentation.
Some impulses that you follow while painting end up
being glimmers of brilliance. Just where do those
impulses come from? And am I smart enough, and
courageous enough to recognize them and leave them
alone? To quit fiddling? That’s the question and the
challenge.
So that’s why I paint, study and experiment. I’m chasing
that mysterious quality that makes a painting more than
pretty, more than interesting, and more than well
executed. I’m chasing that elusive spark that makes a
painting art.
